One Day

There's a Monster in the Kitchen

The Greatest Gift This Christmas

Freddie Bash

Freddie liked to bash about,

He bashed his toys with glee.

He bashed them hard into the floor

And into our TV.

We had to stop him holding sticks

And stones and rocks and boulders,

And when he tried to run away,

I put him on my shoulders.

‘Haha!’ I thought, ‘I’ve got you now,’

‘Stop bashing, my young Fred!’

But, of course, he used his hands

And bashed me round the head.

The Burping Frog
We Went to Feed the Ducks Today

We went to feed the ducks today.

They wanted lots of bread.

We took them last night's dinner

And we gave them that instead.

They didn’t like Mum’s lasagne

And the pizza didn’t please.

They quacked for seeds and flapped for corn

And begged us for some peas.

They chased us halfway round the pond,

They followed us round the farm.

I think they’d have followed us home as well,

If Mum hadn’t grabbed my arm.

‘Take that path!’ she shouted out.

A duck stood there in wait.

Two other ducks were gaining fast,

We were cut off at the gate.

‘There’s only one thing we can do.

We’ll have to jump the fence!’

I clung to Mum in fear,

But the thrill was so immense.

Mum took a run and off we went,

We were living on the edge!

It seemed we flew for miles and miles,

But we landed in a hedge!

Fortunately, it was a leafy one,

And we escaped with just a scratch.

The ducks were quaking furiously,

They knew they’d met their match.

We might not see those ducks again,

The thought of it brings me dread.

Or maybe things will be alright,

If we simply bring them bread.

Feed the Ducks
Snot

Dripping snot. Down to his lip. That’s the issue.

He won’t let me wipe it off with a tissue.

He runs away screaming or puts his head to the floor,

Wipes his nose on the carpet or all up the door.

He moves his head to my t-shirt and swipes it across,

All I can say is that I’m at a loss.

There’s snot on my arm and snot on his hat,

If she wasn’t so quick there’d be snot on the cat.

That nose is so runny it might run away;

Please let me wipe it, just one time today.

Did I mention the snot down the side of the chair?

There’s snot on his pillow and snot in his hair.

Let’s hope tomorrow the runny nose has got tired,

The dripping has stopped and no tissue’s required.

It’s only the autumn, there’s a whole winter of this;

And there’s snot in my mouth from our goodnight kiss.

There are Germs Around

Mummy said there are germs around so we have to stay at home

We can’t see Nanna and Grandad and we can’t go out and roam

I haven’t been to school for weeks to read and write and play

I’m trying to learn at home instead, I did my best today

I’m making a special diary with pictures of all I do

It’s fun to cut and stick and draw and practise writing too

I love the colourful rainbows in the houses all around

We have two in our windows and I count the ones we’ve found

We went outside at lunchtime, now I’m inside with my toys

I’ve been playing with my brother, we’ve been making lots of noise

We soaked ourselves with water and we’ve painted half the floor

We’ve watched a lot of telly but we’d like to watch some more

I really miss my friends a lot, we’ve spoken on the phone

I’m glad I’ve got my family so I’m not just on my own

I’m excited for the Easter hunt but where will eggs be found?

Is the bunny stuck at home? I hope he’ll come around

I hope to go on holiday and play in the park and pool

I can’t wait to see my friends again and be with them in school

I’ll go out in the garden now, the sun is out today

I know things will be better when the germs have gone away.

Always Believe You Can Grow

Practising skills will help you to learn;

It will help you get better each day.

And even though you can’t do it yet,

It won’t always be that way.

Keep trying hard and do your best,

Don’t worry if progress is slow.

Every new day is a chance to improve,

So always believe you can grow.
